Big Weekend For Buck Pond Freshman Sires!
Saturday was a big day for Buck Pond Farm’s freshman sires SEATTLE FITZ (Arg) and BOLD TRUTH.
BOLD TRUTH got his first stakes winner when BOLD CAPTAIN won the $75,000 Best of Ohio Juvenile S. at Thistledown. Sent off the 3rd choice at nearly 5-1 odds following his 10 length romp in a Maiden Special Weight, Bold Captain tracked just off the leaders and took the lead turning for home. He drew off to win comfortably by 2 ¼ lengths. Bold Captain was bred by Dr. D. W. Frazier and races in the name of his Pyrite Stables. Congratulations to Dr. Frazier, trainer Miguel Feliciano, and jockey Deshawn Parker.
On the same afternoon SEATTLE FITZ added another impressive maiden winner when FITZMO took a Maiden Special Weight at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meet. A solid 4th in his first start at Del Mar (a race that featured Norfolk S.-G1 winner STREET HERO and Del Mar Futurity-G1 winner MIDSHIPMAN), Fitzmo maintained good position, moved to second turning for home and wore down the pacesetter to win by 1 ¼ lengths. Fitzmo stopped the clock for the 6 furlong event in an impressive 1:08 flat and posted a 91 Beyer Speed Figure, one of the top 25 figures for a 2YO this year. Fitzmo was bred in Kentucky by Gigi Gillson, was foaled and raised at Buck Pond Farm and sold in our 2007 Keeneland September Yearling consignment. Congratulations to Ms. Gillson, owners Phyllis Brown, Lou Ferraro, John Reveli, Pro Selection Stable and Firsthome, trainer Adam Kitchingman and jockey Russell Baze.

Lost Soldier Tallies A New Stakes Winner!
The hits just keep on coming for Lost Solider. Over the weekend he added another rising star to his up and coming 2-year-olds when his son PRAYFORTHESOLDIERS won the Winnipeg Futurity at Assiniboia Downs on Sunday. Prayforthesoldiers, near the back early, closed with a rush in the stretch to win by nearly 2 lengths. The gelding was bred in Kentucky by Jenny Mills and races for Play 2 Win stables. Lost Soldier now has a Stakes Winner and a Stakes-Placed filly from his current crop of 2-year-olds.
Buck Pond Tops September 19th Session At Keeneland Yearling Sale
Buck Pond Farm bred, raised and sold the sale topper at the Friday, September 19th session of the 2008 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Doug Arnold’s homebred colt by Bernstein out of Sparkler, by Carson City went through the ring as Hip No. 3803 and brought the hammer down at $195,000 to Gulf Coast Farm. Congratulations and best of luck to Gulf Coast Farm with their purchase.
The colt’s sire, BERNSTEIN-G3, began his stallion career at Buck Pond Farm. His instant success with his first crop of 2-year-olds prompted his sale to Castleton-Lyons. Mr. Arnold has continued to support the stallion. The colt's dam, Sparkler, is a half-sister to SOFTLY-G2 and current Grade 3 winner CORAGIL CAT (Forest Wildcat), who set a new track record on Arlington Park's Polytrack prior to his three-length score in the May 24 Hanshin Cup H.-G3. This is the family of Grade 3 scorers CITY ATTRACTION and HOLD OLD BLUE, Grade 3 heroine and stakes producer TIL FORBID, stakes winers and Grade 3 placed filly COOLWING (Forest Wildcat) and promising two-year-old Herr Mozart (Mr. Greeley), third in the August 29 With Anticipation S. in his career debut at Saratoga. Sparkler has a 2008 colt by Forest Wildcat and is back in foal to Johannesburg, the sire of her first foal, Innovative. Innovative, a $290,000 Keeneland September Yearling last year, has already broken her maiden and is in training with Graham Motion.
