Graded Stakes Winning Son Of Giant’s Causeway To Buck Pond Farm

Buck Pond Farm announces the arrival of NIAGARA CAUSEWAY, a graded stakes-winning son of Giant’s Causeway, who will stand at the farm in 2009 for a fee of $3,000 live foal/stands and nurses. He is owned by Glenda Perryman’s La Bahia Stud.

Six-year-old Niagara Causeway was purchased for $230,932 at the 2004 Tattersalls October yearling sale from Castlemartin Stud and raced in the colors of La Bahia Stud. He was bred in Kentucky by Bronwyn Maddocks, Andrew Harcourt, and Skymarc Farm.

Niagara Causeway established a track record in winning the 2008 Tokyo City Handicap-G3 at a 1 ½ miles on the all weather track at Santa Anita. Two years earlier, he ran second in the Cinema Breeders’ Cup Handicap-G2T. He retired with wins or placings in nine of 20 races and earnings of $255,567.

“Niagara Causeway was typical of most Giant's Causeways. They are tough horses with good conformation and hearts as big as they are,” said trainer Leonard Powell. “His victory in the Tokyo City Handicap was very hard fought as he was never going to let the two runners up pass him. Niagara is a horse with very good tactical speed that he could carry over a distance of ground. He was bred for turf but his form also improved dramatically when he switched to synthetic surfaces."

Niagara Causeway is the only son of Giant’s Causeway standing in Kentucky in 2009 out of a Graded Stakes winning mare. He is the first foal from Irish champion 3-year-old filly miler Theoretically (by Theatrical), herself a half-sister to French group I winner Cudas.

The stallion arrived at Buck Pond on January 6 and will be available for inspection throughout the upcoming Keeneland January Sale along with the other Buck Pond stallions. Buck Pond Farm will host a special Open House on Thursday January 15th from 10 AM until 4 PM. Please call the farm at (859) 873-4081 for additional information.
